What is E10 Fuel? E10 Fuel is the new petrol standard in the UK. It will
help reduce carbon emissions and keep your car running smoothly. The use of E10
fuel has been gradually introduced over the past few years, and now all cars
manufactured for sale in Europe must be compatible with E10.
This month's blog here at A.M. Engineering looks at E10 fuel
and what you need to know. For more information, call us in Bromsgrove on 01527 833748 .
About E10 Fuel Replacing E5 petrol at the pumps, E10 is a mixture of 10%
ethanol and 90% petrol. By changing the mix of the fuel, the level of CO2-based
vehicle emissions should be reduced. The government anticipates that this could
cut transport CO2 emissions by up to 750,000 tonnes a year.
The use of E-ethanol has been gradually introduced over the
past few years, and now all cars manufactured for sale in Europe must be
compatible with E-fuel.
What does this mean for motorists? E10 fuel is anticipated to be compatible with around 95% of
petrol-powered vehicles in the UK. Moreover, all cars manufactured since 2011
are compatible. However, there are some that may not be, including:
Classic cars Some specific models Some mopeds under 50cc
You can check your vehicle's compatibility here .
What if My Car is Not Compatible? If your car is not compatible with E10 petrol, then e5 is
still available from most fuel stations. It will be labelled as 'premium' or
'performance' mixture. These fuels will continue to be available and should
provide better performance.
However, you will have to pay more.
What if I Accidentally Use E10 in My Car? There are many reasons why E10 should not be used in a
non-compatible vehicle. Fuel containing ethanol can make some internal
components suffer, including the seals and gaskets. Additionally, it can affect
combustion and cold start performance.
You don't need to drain the tank to avoid permanent damage
to your vehicle. As long as the use is not prolonged, you should be fine. Just
remember to fuel up with premium fuel next time.
